JJ: At His Best

I have been able to spend some time this week with our oldest son JJ. He lives on the farm that I grew up on so he is "Mr. Independent". I don't often get to see him as much now since he is not in our home. Every once in awhile .... I stop with a few groceries or this-and-thats for him, but we have been able to "hang" awhile this week and it has been nice.

He stopped by to drop something off early in the week, so I made him breakfast and we "had coffee" ..... this morning, he brought baby calves up for his Dad and we all had breakfast. Sounds "simple", but it is huge to me. I love my boys who are becoming young men ... seems like yesterday that I held them in my arms.

But last night, I was able to see JJ in his element, doing one of the things he loves .... auctioneering. His Dad and Grandpa are auctioneers, so it is nothing new ... but last night while watching him I was mesmerized.

Jim and JJ were asked to do a benefit auction for a little girl who is struggling with cancer. They asked me if I wanted to go along. I rarely have Friday nights when I am not on the road for youth stuff, so I figured this was a nice opportunity just to be with "my guys". So I went along for the ride.

I've seen them before, the guys auctioneering ... I have been their clerk before ... it's in our family ... not MY thing anymore .... but I have never really been able to watch them. Although my husband Jim is a good auctioneer, and my Dad is good and auctioneered for many years .... JJ is a natural. He woos the crowd .... he takes control .... he is one with the microphone ... and he sways with the rythmn which he creates. And he enjoys every minute of it.

It was good to see him enjoying life, doing what he loves. I'm glad I had this time.

I am proud of you son!

Love,
Mom
